When a foreign newspaper creates a cartoon about you, you know you’re one of the big guys.
It was such a funny moment. The moment when ‘the French’ from the organisation of the maritime festival Escale à Sète found out we were going to build a traditional ‘joutes’ boat from waste plastic. Funny, because ‘Les Joutes’, the annual traditional water jousting games, is a Big Deal for the people in Sète. They laughed at us, ‘the Dutch’, when they found out that we were serious. And that we were planning to return to the town of Sète in 2024 to join their traditional games of honor. The disbelief in their eyes…
The news spread quickly. And the local cartoonist Dadou made a cartoon about us for the newspaper Midi Libre! Translation: ‘Escale à Sète: 2024. The Dutch will return to play the games’.
