Volunteer Piet: ‘I am not an inventor, more of a boy scout’

8 maart 2022

Our first and oldest volunteer Piet (forever 79) is a practical guy. You won’t see him roaring on a soap box to work towards a cleaner future. He rather supports a tangible project such as Clean2Anywhere.

‘Plastic is a beautiful product. But we must remember that oil and gas are not endless and that the environment suffers greatly from our lifestyle. To change this, we need politics, science and people like Edwin and Liesbeth who just start and take action.

I’m not an inventor, more of a Boy Scout. You won’t see me roaring on a soapbox. I prefer to help with a tangible project of idealists such as Liesbeth and Edwin. They are willing to invest a large part of their lives in raising awareness, and hope to be able to say it was all worth it at the end. I rather go fishing. But I have a lot of admiration for that and find it valuable to make my contribution.

When Edwin calls for a job, I’m happy to help. There are plenty of hands, but not everyone can do specific chores. Chores with the crane or help out accompanying the trade mission Clean2Amsterdam by motor boat. Those things. I do what needs to be done. Pride is not the word, but it gives satisfaction. I am more proud of Edwin and Liesbeth.’
