The launch of yet the second Dutch werkboot was a celebration. And for good reason: the construction of the ‘Schelphoek’ was an achievement. For us, but also for the builders themselves.
We built the first Dutch werkboot from waste plastic as a little experiment leading up to the construction of the big Dutch fluitschip. The Schelphoek, this second werkboot, was built by a team of youngsters, people with a refugee status and volunteers from reintegration agency WerkSaam Westfriesland. None of them had ever thought of building a boat, but they did. And along the way they made future plans for work or study. This shows that the construction of waste plastic ships is of great social value for society, but especially for the builders themselves. Worth a celebration! Watch the video:
